We just made collaboration around files easier and we did some significant design improvements to the files section of Podio workspaces.
New files section design
The files sections in your workspaces aggregate all the files shared in that space. Even your Google Docs will be displayed in your files section. If you’re using the stream to share files on an ad hoc basis, you need a place to find them later, the files section is the place to go. We also made working with files more efficient by adding filtering. Now you can filter your files on time, author, or type of files – just like you would with items in an app.
New view modes
You can pick from a table view or the standard Podio badge view. The badge view is a perfect match for all sorts of media sharing, as it wil show you a preview of images etc. so that you dont have to download them first to see what they are. Both views will show you who shared the file, when, and in what context.
Quick file sharing
Also, you can now upload files directly from the files section, and the sidebar of your workspaces or Employee Network. When you do so the file is also shared in your workspace stream, like any other activity on Podio.
Each file can have tasks and comments
If you share a file directly from your workspace’s file section, the file will get it’s own page. When you see the file in your activity stream, click its name, and on this new page you can discuss the file with comments, and assign related tasks.
Check out our how-to video guide for using the new files section to managing your files. Plus, please give us your feedback, and let us know how you work with files on Podio with the webform below.

are you planning to add ways to structure & filter files via folders or tags?

Steffen – you can do this yourself by attaching your files to app items with the category field and tags. Ping support@podio.com if you want more info on that.
